"Summer...time"!

Happy Summer 2025! There’s something about this time of year that always excites me, not sure if it’s the slower pace, the warm memories from my own childhood, or just the natural pause that makes me want to recharge & realign with the goals I set for myself at the top of the year. Summer, after all, is the dotted line halfway mark to fulfilling our ‘New Years’ resolutions.

So here I am, asking myself, am I any closer to where I want to be? Doing what I truly want to do? Living up to the personal goals I promised myself back in November, December & January? I’m still sitting with those questions…

Now, my husband, he’s succinct - truly a numbers guy. He’s a task master & goal-setter, who always has the finish line in sight. The other day he reminded me: we only have four more summers before MJ heads off to college…cue the deep breath & the mommy tears. MJ’s going into the 8th grade in the fall, but hearing it framed like that gave me a different kind of awareness. Four more summers with both of our boys at home. Only four. I was recently talking to a girlfriend about the very same thing & I reminded her that we do our job as moms and equip our kids with all the necessary tools that they need & when it’s time for them to fly, it always hits us like a ton of bricks and sometimes it stings. But while I was reassuring her, I was also gently talking to myself.

Shortly after, it hit me - everything has a countdown. A deadline. A reminder to “act now & do something quickly.” Book by date…Register by date…RSVP by date…Submit by date…it’s constant. And while I respect the importance of timelines, this summer, I’m choosing something else. I’m giving myself permission to not live so tightly by deadlines. And to be fully present with my family, my friends & myself. Because for this summer & the next three, I want to soak up every moment….timely!

With gratitude!
